Styling Change
This newly redesigned Type V bar does not feature the lower cross-bar that was present on earlier models. This component was deleted from the current bar to allow compatibility with the factory wind blocker, the Racing Beat 3-Piece Deck Cover, aftermarket replacement tops with glass windows, etc...

Appearance

The Type V Style Bar is a departure from other style bars with its wide, aerodynamic design. This bar measures 4-inches across, which further adds to its sleek and dynamic aero-design. Hand-tailored padding and upholstery-grade vinyl lend a level of elegance that complements any Miata. The graceful lines of the Type V give hints of its European design elements.

Manufactured entirely in the USA, each Type V style bar is supplied with detailed, illustrated instructions and can be installed in approximately 2 hours using basic tools. The addition of this, or any Style Bar, will add chassis stiffening to the mid-section of any Miata.

Fitting Notes
All of the Racing Beat style bars are designed to operate with both the stock factory soft and hard tops. This style bar can be installed on cars that are equipped with the Mazda-factory Wind Blocker in place. (Note: This bar can also be used with the aftermarket Oris windblocker unit in place.) Additionally, on the 1990-2000 Miata, rearward seat travel is not impeded, but the headrest will rest inside the upper bar. In 2001, Mazda redesigned the seats on the Miata to feature a taller seat back. This taller seat will not fit under the bar as with the earlier models. On the 2001-03 cars, the seat backs will rest against the forward edge of the bar, which results in a restriction of the upper seat back by two (2) “clicks”. Note: Vision through the rearview mirror is reduced with the use of this bar on ALL models.

Racing Beat Aluminum Flywheel

Racers have long recognized the benefits of a lighter weight flywheel – a faster revving and more responsive engine. The reduced mass of a lightened flywheel allows the engine to transfer more energy to the drive train, while expending less energy on bringing a heaver steel flywheel up to speed. This allows for a quicker revving engine, and notable ease with matching engine revs to gear selection. However, the installation of a lightened flywheel is not only for autocross or racing applications, many Miata owners find these very suitable for everyday street use.

In fact, many Miata owners are surprised just how much of a difference the installation of a lightweight flywheel will provide for their overall driving experience. As written by one satisfied customer, “Installation of this piece made the single largest improvement I've experienced of all my upgrades. (catback, clutch, intake, etc..) Throttle response is greatly increased, as is passing speed.” Another Miata enthusiast noted, “I noticed was how much better shifts felt; the revs really drop FAST, making quick shifts MUCH more smooth.”

Engineered and designed entirely by Racing Beat, our Aluminum Flywheel noticeably improves acceleration in the lower gears and makes shifting smoother by reducing the flywheel inertia by roughly half. The flywheel has a heat-treated, and replaceable steel friction surface for long life, and the ring gear is bolted in place for added security.

Flywheel weight for the 1990-93 Miata (shown on right above) is reduced from roughly 18 pounds to approximately 8 pounds; flywheel weight for the 1994-03 Miata (shown left above) is reduced from 19 pounds to approximately 9 pounds. These flywheels directly interchange with all Mazda stock clutch parts.
